Frequently asked questions
Short answers to the questions instructors ask most.
How do students get access to an assessment?
Every assessment gets a short access code. Students enter it once to join the roster; there is no public list of assessments to browse. You can also add students directly by username, and remove anyone at any time.
What happens when I remove a student from a roster?
They immediately lose access and drop out of future grade exports, but any work they already submitted is preserved. Graded work is never retroactively erased.
Can students game the shuffling or the timer?
No. Question and choice order is fixed per attempt by a token signed on the server, and time limits are anchored to the moment an attempt is first opened — re-fetching the page issues the same window, not a fresh one.
How does pause and resume work on timed assessments?
If you enable pausing, a student can pause a timed attempt and only active time counts against the limit. Their in-progress answers are saved server-side and restored when they resume — even though the resumed attempt gets a fresh shuffle.
What grading options exist for multi-answer questions?
Each select-all-that-apply question can grade all-or-nothing or with partial credit that penalizes wrong picks. Single-answer questions grade classically.
Which attempt counts in the grade export?
Your choice per assessment: the latest attempt, the highest, or the average across attempts. The CSV export applies the policy for you.
Can I restrict who can enroll?
Yes — set allowed email domains (e.g. university.edu) in Settings, and enrollment across all your assessments is limited to matching accounts. Organizations can apply the same rule org-wide.
Does Oritavo detect cheating?
Oritavo records signals rather than making accusations: tab switches during an attempt, and rapid-retry patterns consistent with brute-forcing the answer key. Both surface in your results view; judgment stays with you.
Can my department or company share Oritavo?
Yes. Create an organization workspace in Settings and invite instructors by email. Individual accounts keep a personal workspace either way.
